Day 1: Iquitos – Jungle Lodge

Departure of our Anaconda Peru Tour between 8:00am - 8:30am from your hotel in Iquitos (private vehicle or minivan depending on group size).

Travel south from Iquitos by road for roughly 1 hour and 45 minutes (approximate) until we reach the city of Nauta. During the route our expert tour guide will teach us important and fascinating stories about the city of Iquitos, as well as its main attractions.

Upon arrival in Nauta, we will now board a local boat as we begin traveling along the Amazon River and tributaries of the Marañon, Amazonas y Ucayali. After roughly 3 hours we will now reach the Yarapa River, where our jungle lodge is located. On the journey we will enjoy beautiful rainforest landscapes and charming river villages, and if we are lucky we can also spot wild Grey and Pink River Dolphins.

Now we arrive at our jungle lodge. Our friendly team will welcome us, and give us a brief explanation about the area, sustainability practices as well as the rules of the jungle lodge. We will also learn more about the untouched surroundings and how we can have both a more authentic and rewarding experience whilst out here in the Peruvian Amazon Jungle.

Enjoy a much-needed lunch, where after eating we will check-in to our private rooms (depending on the option you have selected).

In the early afternoon we will now embark on our first jungle expedition by foot. Here we will be able to observe various wild species that are native to the Amazon Jungle and surrounding rivers. In this particular area we can spot various bird species, such as the herons (the great crowned egret or the snowy egret) and kingfishers.

After eating dinner, we will now head out for a night jungle walk. Here we will be able to spot all kinds of wildlife such as spiders, snakes, lizards, frogs and rodents. Keep your eyes and ears peeled and we hear all kinds of night-time jungle sounds!

Upon return at our jungle lodge, we will now rest for the night in our private rooms which all come equipped with mosquito nets.

Are There Anacondas In Peru?
Yes we can find the elusive and incredible Anacondas here in Peru! They are found within the deep jungle, and are often hard to spot as they stay in the more remote areas away from human settlements. On our tour our experts will give us the best chance of spotting Anacondas, which can otherwise be difficult to spot.
Is Iquitos The Best Place To See An Anaconda Peru?
Whilst there are many places to witness the Anaconda in Peru, Iquitos is one of the best in the entire country. This is because this city is located very deep in the jungle, which can only be reached by either plane or boat. As a result, many rare animals such as the Anaconda are easier to spot as we will be exploring much more remote and less-busy regions of the Amazon Jungle.
How Fast Can An Anaconda Move?
On land, an Anaconda can move up to a leisurely 5mph, which is why they have had to become very stealthy predators on land. However in the water, they can move at double the speed - up to 10mph - meaning they are much more lethal and better-adapted to hunting for prey in the Amazon Rivers and small tributaries.
